This week, we’re joined by Secret Pirates CEO, Ali Badshah, to talk about all things Lumiii.
Lumiii is a fascinating project that uses blockchain technology in several unique ways. The Secret Order of Lumiiis is an animated TV series that introduces people of all ages to Web3 through an engaging storyline and some cool interactive features.
Lumiii also plans to launch an Augmented Reality NFT trading card game for the series, alongside a learn-to-earn platform for school boards, a family-friendly DeFi platform and an immersive Metaverse for fans to enjoy.

In this article, we’ll be getting some exclusive insight to the way things work over at Lumiii, and get a real sense for this ambitious project’s plans as we move towards the future.

As It Happened
To kick things off, could you please tell us a bit more about your own background, and what attracted you to the crypto space?
Born and raised in Toronto. Been an artist and storyteller my whole life. In showbusiness for over 25 years. Just wrapped on Fox’s new crime anthology series The Accused for David Shore (the creator of House), Angelina Jolie cast me as the male lead in The Breadwinner. We were nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe, plus another 55 nominations 22 wins. I’m on Y: The Last Man w/ Diane Lane, on Workin’ Moms on Netflix… I’ve been around. Got five televised comedy specials (just opened for Whitney Cummings in Toronto). Have a #1 Bestselling book. And, on top of that, I’ve been doing creative direction for Fortune 500 brands for the last decade.
I’m a storyteller and, when I took the dive into crypto at the beginning of the pandemic I noticed some major gaps and opportunities around access and narrative brand value that ultimately attracted me to the space.
So I met with my highschool best friend, Mehdi Rahman, who helped scale Spin Master, the creators of Paw Patrol and Bakugan, from $290M to $1.8B, showed him Lumiii and he loved it. We decided to form Secret Pirates, our media and gaming company, with Lumiii as our first IP.
Lumiii seems to be a completely unique project. Can you tell us more about the TV show itself?
Yeah for sure. The show is called The Secret Order of Lumiiis and it’s essentially the action of Pokemon meets the comedy of Adventure Time. It’s a tween anime comedy about a purple cyclops with a pyramid head, a shapeshifting lizard girl, and a loud-mouth lamb who have to keep a population of dumb creatures called Dingles safe from themselves, and from the evil forces of Zank and The Hollow.
It’s a classic hero quest, with best-in-class comedy writing and animation, and all the makings of a new cult classic. I’m showrunning the series and playing a few characters on the series. We’ve got the showrunner from Doomsday Brothers on Adult Swim, Willem Wennekers, (a show that I star in and earned an ACTRA nomination for last year) on the team as our head writer. We’ve also pulled in their animation director. We’ve got Anthony Farrell, who used to write on NBC’s The Office and just won Showrunner of The Year, plus Michael Levine — who is the patriarch of Canadian film and television, and so many more killers. Our team is stacked and we’re looking forward to giving the world something brand new with The Secret Order of Lumiiis.
What are the different ways that fans of the series can interact with the TV show?
There’s a bunch of ways but the two main ones are QR codes and voting.
The show is embedded with QR codes. A small portion lead to LumiiiToken rewards. Another small portion lead to entry-level LumiiiFantasy NFT trading cards — LumiiiFantasy is our AR Trading Card Fighting game being built on Niantic’s Lightship. Niantic are the creators of Pokemon Go. The vast majority of the QR codes lead to LumiiiAcademy — our learn-to-earn portal, where you complete free gamified learning modules and win premium Lumiii NFT and other big brand NFT products. You can’t buy the hottest Lumiii products. The only way to get them is through our learn-to-earn platform. So yeah, QR codes is one way.
The other way is voting rights awarded to LumiiiToken holders. Curated lists around creative decision-making points on the show will be presented to our token holders for their vote. For example, the network wants 10 episodes for the season. Our writers’ room generates 18 options for the network and they select 15. We then present the 15 to the community and get them to pick the top 10, which will end up being the episodes for the season. The community will get to vote on other things to like character designs, story arcs, and more.
That’s amazing! Beyond winning premium NFTs, how else have you integrated NFT technology with Lumiii?
Some LumiiiNFTs, like Dingles (which were stealth launched on Solana in the Fall and can be minted now, along with our new Dingles launch on Polygon) will generate passive daily LumiiiToken rewards. LumiiiNFTs will also provide membership access and privileges. Plus, the top 100 player-owned NFT trading cards from LumiiiFantasy will be packaged every year as part of the physical LumiiiFantasy trading card set, with those NFT owners receiving a portion of the profits. Imagine owning a Squirtle or Mewtwo and collecting revenue from it. Crazy.
LumiiiToken is slated to IEO in September. How does the token work?
LumiiiToken is built on Polygon. With LumiiiToken, you can make creative decisions on the show, engage with the LumiiiFantasy game, purchase land, goods, and services in the LumiiiVerse.
Tell us more about LumiiiAcademy — your learn-to-earn platform.
LumiiiAcademy, for us, is our crown jewel in Phase One of Lumiii. LumiiiAcademy delivers gamified learning modules on all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, Web3 essentials, and future-needed job skills, like product marketing and game development, to school boards, educators, and students all over the world. As these students complete the modules, they earn Lumiii digital products (LumiiiTokens, LumiiiNFTs) and eventually, digital products from other entertainment brands. The big challenge for entertainment brands that want to educate is that, the moment they do, they’ve compromised their brand identity. Think about it, if Pokemon was educational, no one would watch or play. Same with Lumiii. The Secret Order of Lumiiis is an entertainment property — it’s not “edutainment”. The way we ensure our brands stay on the entertainment side of things is by creating a buffer through LumiiiAcademy, which delivers the educational content and rewards with the entertainment prizes.
The best part about LumiiiAcademy are that we’re partnered with UCL EdTech Labs, that’s University College London, and, through this partnership, we’ll be getting LumiiiAcademy directly to over 10M students every year around the world. The multipliers with Lumiii are massive.
These next two questions relate to your roadmap. Firstly, how does Lumiii plan to incorporate DeFi services on the platform?
Our end-goal with Lumiii, in Phase 3, is to bring the Lumiii community into our easy-access family-friendly decentralized exchange and NFT marketplace. It’s currently called LumiiiSwap but it’s more than just a swap. It’s a multi-chain DEX that leverages on-ramps and UX best-practices to create an easy experience for families entering DeFi. We’re aiming to be the category leader in what we’re calling FamFi (Family Finance).
Liquidity providers on LumiiiSwap, in addition to the standard 0.3% transaction fee, will receive a portion of profits from some of the other Lumiii business units — starting with Lumiii CPG: Our toys, clothing, and other licensed products.
Also on the roadmap is a P2E Lumiii game. Will this game be based directly on the TV show?
Yes, our game LumiiiFantasy is drawn directly from the story of The Secret Order of Lumiiis. In the show, the Lumiiis and the Hollows fight each other partly by powering up the Dingles, transforming them, and sending them into battle.
In the game, players need a minimum of two trading cards — a Dingle fighter card, and either a Lumiii Master or Hollow Master card to power it up. The Dingle fighter cards can be bred, upgraded, and evolved. Their attacks and defenses change based on the Master card. For example, Baseer (the one-eyed boy) has lightning power, so his Dingles have lightning attacks. Lamb, on the other hand, has teleportation and healing powers, so his Dingles attack and defend in those ways.
The story of Lumiii drives every facet of the project.
Will The Secret Order of Lumiiis always remain at the core of the project, even as you expand?
Absolutely. Lumiii, at its core, is a narrative IP that brings families into the new Web3 world. Our ecosystem is cohesive and leverages the best elements of Web3. It’s designed to enhance the entertainment experience for our audiences and players, while rewarding them and helping them level up in their lives.
This whole thing came about because, one day, I asked myself “How would Disney have started a bank? How would he have started a university?”
We’re banking the unbankable and training the untrainable people of the world with Lumiii. And we mean it.
